The Front Desk Agent

I’d love to share my experience with you as a front desk agent for whom English is a second language. Can you imagine how challenging it can be? But that doesn’t mean you can’t succeed, does it? The language barrier is not insurmountable, especially with dedicated practice in reading, writing, listening, and conversation. Your experience at the front desk is what truly matters, regardless of your country of origin. The core responsibilities of a front desk role in hotels and resorts are consistent across locations.

I had an amazing 6-year journey as a front desk agent in Canada. Despite the initial challenges, my previous experience in a similar role greatly accelerated my learning process. Following my role in marketing at a dive centre in Indonesia, I transitioned to the tourism industry in Canada, where I provided accommodation for skiers in the winter and golfers in the summer. This new experience has been incredibly rewarding and has significantly enriched my skill set.

The initial three months serving as a front desk agent at a ski hill resort have proven to be a challenging yet rewarding experience. My dedication to mastering the English language in its various aspects – reading, writing, speaking, and listening – has become an integral part of my daily routine as I strive for excellence in this role. Despite the time and effort required, I have triumphed over every obstacle at work and significantly improved my English proficiency.

“Are you hoping to land a role similar to what you’ve handled in your home country? Don’t allow language barriers to hinder your progress! You can always enhance your language skills later. The crucial thing is your experience, regardless of your background.”
